The Kitikmeot Radio Network (KRN) is owned and operated by SSi Micro (the operator of the QINIQ network in Nunavut). It is the result of a collaborative partnership between SSi and the Kitikmeot Inuit Association. Its goal is to produce a radio pilot project in Nunavut's Kitikmeot region; KRN will operate for an initial two years in Cambridge Bay and Kugluktuk, providing a platform to broadcast daily Inuit language content focused on revitalizing the Inuinnaqtun dialect.
KRN is a commercial radio station with community roots. Residents of the Kitikmeot region are encouraged to get involved and share their own programming and music. Whether you are a local band, a group of traditional performers, or have a podcast you’d like to share: get in touch with us and we might just be able to you get on the radio.
KRN uses a unique web-based media content management system developed by Yukon-based OpenBroadcaster Inc, allowing station managers as well as registered community contributors to prepare, submit and manage programming content over SSi's satellite supported FM radio network. This allows users to create, upload and play content from anywhere in the world.
